Tulle offers a fabulous blend of historic and contemporary architecture. Other places of interest include Gimel les Cascades, Pompadour, Treignac, Oradour sur Glane, Argentat, Les Monedieres, Vallee de la Dordogne, Brive-la-Gaillarde and Collonges la Rouge. A huge regeneration project has provided Tulle with a beautiful Piazza in front of the Cathedrale, including a fountain and water feature, granite block pavements and numerous tasteful "historical monument" status buildings.
The Cathédrale Notre-Dame, whose construction was drawn out from the Romanesque to Gothic periods, stands on the riverside quays in place Émile-Zola.
The Cloister beside it, which itself regularly features independant exhibitions of local scultures & artists, also has a quaint museum containing exhibits ranging from archeology to accordions, along with a large selection of firearms, which once formed one of the town's major industries, along with 'Tulle' - lace.
On the otherside of the Cathedral, at 2 quai Edmond-Perrier, your will find the Musée Départemental de la Résistance et de la Déportation (Mon–Fri 9am–noon & 2–6pm; free), which provides detailed information surrounding the recapturing of the Town from the Resistence, and the 200 Martyrs of Tulle - June 8, 1944.
The fully working small family Accordion factory & musem - Maugein Freres Accordeons - Depuis 1919, can be found just outside the Town centre - personal accompanied tours are available. This is the only place in France where accordians are still made.
Every Wednesday and Saturday morning, Tulle hosts a fabulous and traditional French market along the River Corrèze promenade - not to be missed!!
